ZOMG! I totally forgot to write this down! So, it was a week before Christmas, and the love of my life brought home 2 new pets.
I don’t remember if I logged it here, but, about 2 months or so ago, her cat of 18 years, Chorizo, passed away. It hit her hard, and, if I’m honest, me too. I did love the little cat, even if we didn’t get along at first. I guess she figured that it was time to get another pet, and I’m really glad she did. It shows that she’s healed from the loss, and it brings a bit of joy to the household.
She got 2 little rats from a friend whose pet had a litter. They were just old enough to be weaned from their mom, and they were the cutest little things. They were practically hairless when we got them, but their coats are coming in nicely.
We didn’t know what to name them at first, and friends suggested some pretty neat, if somewhat fictional-rat-specific ones: Nicodemus and Templeton; Pinky and the Brain; even Romulus and Remus. In the end, The Lady walked in about 3 days later and just blurted out “Lenny & Squiggy”. (This is why I love her.)
Lenny is the white one, and Squiggy is the hooded one.
I have been out of work since November and Pacific Northwestern winters are NOT good for my depression, plus I have been feeling ill off and on. These little guys, coupled with my Lady have really done wonders in keeping my spirits up. Though they were a week early, they are the second best Christmas present I think I have ever received. The first being my Lady, herself. Boxing Day (that’s the Day After Christmas, guys) of 2010 being the day she asked me out. Yepper, she’s put up with my proprietary brand of fucked-upped-ness for a solid half decade. All things considered, they were the best 5 years of my life, which, taking into consideration all the weird, wild, bad and screwed up things that have happened to me in the last 5 years, tells you just how wonderful she is.
We are off to California (again) for (another of) her cousins’ wedding tomorrow. The site may not update again until January. Belated Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Joyous Days of Sociopolitical Relevence to you all, my friends.
I hope that 2016 brings you good things!
